1.     REGULATIONS

 

XXI Moscow international children and youth competition for the best performance of scared music «Christmas Carol» is held in the framework of the Moscow international music festival «We are for Peace!» dedicated to the 75th anniversary of victory in the Great Patriotic War.


The annual competition for the best performance of sacred music «Christmas Carol» was established Department of education and Science of Moscow in 2000 for the purpose of spiritual and moral education of children and youth, their familiarization with the richest tradition of Russian sacred music.


«Christmas Carol» is a gala concerts, performances by choral ensembles in the best concert halls of Moscow, a contest for the best performance of sacred music, workshop choirmasters, meetings, open lessons and master classes, scientific and practical conference on the issues of support of children's and youth choir creative work, development of the singing voice of young singers, the children and youth of sacred music.


Sacred music, born in the bosom of the Orthodox tradition, as well as belonging to some other religious areas, has a huge potential for moral education and personal development. Deep symbolic significance has spoken many centuries ago words Vasily the Great: «Psalmody delivers us one of the greatest good-love, inventing the collective singing, instead of the knot to unity, and reducing people in a single consonant face».


The competition «Christmas Carol» involves children's, youth and youth choirs groups that have sacred music in their repertoire (folk, liturgical, concert).


The main content of the contest is the music of the Orthodox tradition.

 

 

2. Objectives and goals of the competition ·


· promotion of revival of traditions of Orthodox spiritual culture;


· promotion of Russian art and traditions, spiritual values;


· awakening in students a sense of patriotism and love for their Homeland, its culture and art;


· education of children's respect and respect for the national Russian culture,

folk traditions, customs, rituals;

 

· introducing children to the best examples of musical heritage;


· support of existing children's and youth creative collectives, showing their achievements;


· study and synthesis of best practices in the field of choral performance, creation

conditions for fruitful creative communication of specialists in the field of music

education of children and youth;


· providing methodological and practical assistance to specialists working with children and young people in the academic choral genre, having spiritual music in the repertoire;

 

· involvement of pupils of secondary schools and institutions of additional education

to singing and, first of all, choral creativity, as to the most accessible and mass

type of children's creativity;

 

· providing each collective (regardless of its age category, singing "experience" and skill level) maximize the opportunity for performing self-realization within the concert programs of the competition;

 

· preservation and development of traditions of choral pedagogy;

 

· awakening young people's interest in spiritual choral and vocal music;

 

· identification of new trends in the methodology of teaching and mastering the spiritual repertoire;

 

· improving the performance skills of members of children's and youth choirs

and individual singers.

 

 

 

3.  The organizing Committee


The founder of the competition is the Moscow Department of Education and Science.

 
The direct organizer of the competition is the Center for Creative Development and Musical and Aesthetic Education of Children and Youth “Radost”, the leading institution of the Russian capital in the field of musical and aesthetic education of youth, the operator of the Moscow Department of Education and Science for organizing mass creative events, operator of the Department of Education and Science of the city of Moscow for the implementation of the city’s comprehensive targeted youth education program “Moscow Children Sing”.

 

 

 

4. Nominations

 

ACADEMIC SINGING

 

Participants of the nomination:

 

· choir (from 20 participants),

 

· vocal and choral ensemble (12-19 members),

 

· vocal ensemble (2-11 participants),

 

· soloists.

 

 

Competitive auditions are held separately in the following categories:


· class-choir,


· school choir,


· staff of the organization of additional education,


· the collective school of music,


· boys choir,


· the choir of boys and young men,


· the team with the Sunday school,


· mixed Amateur choir,


· women's Amateur choir,


· men's Amateur choir,


· professional choir,


· inclusive choir,


· family ensemble,


· choral dramatization,


· solo singing.

 

Age category:


· I category-junior choirs (6-9 years),


· II category- middle choirs (10-13 years),


· III category- senior choirs (14-18 years),


· IV category- youth choirs (19-22 years),


· V category- youth choirs (from 23 years).


 

In each category up to 15% of participants of other age are allowed.

 

FOLK SINGING

 

Participants and categories of the nomination «Folk singing»:

 

· folklore ensembles (from 9 participants),

 

· small folk song ensembles (3-8 participants),

 

· family folklore ensembles,

 

· soloists.

 

Age category:

 

· I category-junior choirs (6-9 years),

 

· II category- middle choirs (10-13 years),

 

· III category- senior choirs (14-18 years),

 

· IV category- youth choirs (19-22 years),

 

· V category- youth choirs (from 23 years).

 

 

 5. Requirements for the competition program

 

ACADEMIC SINGING

 

Each group performs two or three works, which may include compositions of the Orthodox singing tradition, appropriate for performance during the celebration of the Nativity of Christ, and works of spiritual themes dedicated to the holiday of Christmas. The number of works is regulated by the total sound time of the competition program.

 

It is allowed to include in the competition program works of Western European choral and vocal sacred music, but only if the main content of the program (at least 2/3 of the time of its sound) are compositions of the Orthodox singing tradition.

 

For groups-participants of the I and II age categories it is allowed to include in the competition program works from the repertoire of the Large consolidated choir of Moscow schoolchildren:

 

1. «Angel», music by Vladimir Belyaev, words by the nuns of Mary.

 

2. «Do good things», music by Vladimir Belyaev, words by the nuns of Mary.

 

3. «At Christmas», music by V. Filatov, words by P. Morozov.

 

4. «Maria's lullaby», a Polish folk song.

 

5. «Nova joy», Ukrainian Christmas song.

 

6. «Christmas», music by A. Kiselyov, folk words.

 

7. «Christmas has come», music by A. Zharov, words by an unknown author.

 

For groups participating in III to V age categories necessarily the execution of a single work а`сарреllа.

 

Each soloist performed the two works:

 

1. A work of Orthodox singing tradition, appropriate for performance during the celebration of the Nativity of Christ.

 

2. Essay on spiritual themes, dedicated to the holiday of Christmas.

 

It is allowed to include in the program one piece of vocal classics dedicated to the feast of the Nativity of Christ.

 

The time of pure sound of the competition program (for full-time and virtual part participation):

 

· up to 7 min. - for Junior and middle choirs and ensembles;

 

· up to 10 min. - for senior and youth choirs and ensembles;

 

· up to 5 min. - for soloists of Junior and middle age categories;

 

· up to 7 min. - for soloists of senior and youth age categories;

 

· up to 10 min. - for district consolidated choirs.

 

FOLK SINGING

 

Each participant (collective or soloist) performs two or three works, which may include compositions of the Orthodox singing tradition, appropriate for performance during the celebration of the Nativity of Christ, and works of spiritual themes dedicated to the holiday of Christmas.

 

The number of works is regulated by the total sound time of the competition program.

 

Playing time of the competition program:

 

· up to 7 min. - for choirs and ensembles of Junior and middle age categories;

 

· up to 10 min. - for choirs and ensembles of senior, youth and youth age categories;


· up to 5 min. - for soloists of Junior and middle age categories;


· up to 7 min. - for soloists of senior, youth and youth age categories.

 

 

 

6.  Forms of the competition

 

The competition is held in one stage in full-time or correspondence form.

8. The rules of the competition

 

Competitive auditions are held in the presence of the jury and the public.

 

Notes

 

· The appearance of the contestants should be neat, tidy.

 

· Availability of replacement shoes is mandatory.

 

· Contestants in sports clothes or shoes, jeans are not allowed to audition.

 

· Use of phonograms is not allowed.

 

· The jury reserves the right to interrupt the performance of the performer due to violation of the time frame or program requirements.

 

 

 

 

9. Rewarding of winners and participants of the contest

 

Performances are evaluated on a 10-point scale. Then the arithmetic mean is determined.

 

· 10 points – Grand Prix;


· 9-9, 9 points correspond to the title of the laureate of the I degree;


· 8-8, 9 points – the title of the laureate of the II degree;


· 7-7, 9 points – the title of laureate of the III degree;


· 6-6, 9 points-the title of the diploma.


Collectives that took part in the competition and scored less than 6 points, receive a Diploma of the participant.

 

Special diplomas are provided.

 

Collectives that took part in the competition and scored less than 6 points receive a diploma of participant of competition.

 

The results of the competition will be announced on February 5, 2020 on the website of the program «Moscow Children Sing» (http://choirsofmoscow.ru).

 

 

 10. Procedure and terms of submission of documents for participation in the competition


To participate in the competition, you must fill out an online application no later than December 15, 2019.

 

Attention! Submission of an application for participation in the competition confirms the consent to the processing of personal data of participants by the organizing Committee.

 

The information specified in the application will be used in the design of diplomas. Only teachers and concertmasters specified in the application can be awarded with the gratitude of the competition.

Feedback and information about the schedule of the competition events will be provided exclusively by phone and e-mail specified in the application.

 

Collectives-participants for publication in the booklet of the competition to the online application must be attached:

 

· color photo of the collective (jpeg, tiff file; at least 3 MB);

 

· characteristics of the collective with the indication of creative achievements for the period from 2017 to 2019 (Word file, the size of the text is 2000 characters with spaces);

 

· color photo of the artistic Director of the collective (jpeg, tiff file; at least 3 MB);

 

· the characteristic of the artistic Director with the indication of education, creative achievements for the period from 2017 to 2019 (Word file; text volume-1000 printed characters with spaces).

 

 

Soloists-participants for publication in the booklet of the competition to the online application must be attached:

 

· color photo of the soloist (jpeg, tiff file; at least 3 MB);

 

· characteristics of the soloist with the indication of creative achievements for the period from 2017 to 2019 (Word file, the size of the text is 1000 characters with spaces). Also, in the characteristic it is necessary specify additionally the surname, name and patronymic (in full) of the teacher.

 

 

Attention! Changes in the competition programs after December 31, 2019 are not allowed.

 

The participants of the auditions of the «Academic singing» must the day of auditions to give the Secretary of the jury of 4 copies of notes of all the works in competition. Works with accompaniment are provided in the form of a clavier: choral score (vocal part) and piano accompaniment. The notes should be printed or clearly written, neatly collected in separate files and signed: the name of the choir, the organization, Name of the head, date of performance.

 

Participants of the virtual form of the direction «Academic singing» scanned or typed in the music editor notes of all works of the competition program must be attached to the application.

 

Participants of the virtual form should also attach a link to the video of the competition performance to the online application.

 

The video recording must meet the following requirements:

 

· the Manager (or the participant independently) before performance of the competitive program has to introduce the participant, name the educational institution and the performed work;

 

· the competition program must be performed in the format of a concert performance, without stops;

 

· video recording should be done without turning off and stopping the camera-from the beginning and until the end of the performance of the competition program (subsequent installation is not allowed);

 

· record must be made no earlier than September 2019.

 

The video of the contest performance must be posted on YouTube (youtube.com).

 

Videos posted on other Internet services or sent by e-mail will not be accepted for participation in the contest.

 

When uploading videos to YouTube, you must specify:

 

• In the video Title field»:

 

- country,

 

- city,

 

- name and surname of the soloist/ name of the collective.

 

 

• In the field “Description”:

 

- name of the contest: "Christmas carol-2020»,

 

- nomination,

 

- age of the participant/ range of ages of participants of collective,

 

- performing program,

 

- surname, name, patronymic of the teacher/ collective leader

 

Videos that do not answer these requirements will not be evaluated.

 

The heads of choirs and vocal ensembles must provide a list of members of the collective, which will include the following data of each participant: name (in full), surname, year of birth, age, full name of the institution, class. The list is placed in the online application.

Without the list, the application is invalid.

 

Participation in the contest is free.
